POTATO DAY

Sunday 16th March 2008

Our annual celebration of the humble spud also includes guided tours, talks, a coping session with our coping-master Philip, and the Grass Roof Café’s special potato dishes. Many potato varieties will be on show Organic seed potatoes will be on sale on the day and advice on planting will be given.

Special guest Dave Langford will present more than 150 varieties of potatoes. We also invite the local schools to pick up organic seed potatoes and growing tips.

The Organic Centre has joined forces this year with The Green Box, St. Angela’s Food Technology Centre, the Foodhub, the Western Organic Network and the Leitrim Organic Farmers Co-op to organise the Harvest Feast in Rossinver and Drumshanbo. Details and a full programme on www.harvestfeast.ie

ORGANIC FOOD WEEK

September 8 Monday - 13 Saturday 2008

The week will highlight the many benefits of organic food and will feature a special day for children and teenagers around healthy lunchboxes, our traditional women’s day with demonstrations and information on wholefood cooking and baking and the annual Community Food Project Celebration as well as a Grass Roof Café Extravaganza.

APPLE DAY

Sunday 5th October 2008

The orchard at the Centre contains 60 apple trees; half of them Irish varieties, the other half selected for their resistance to diseases. We will provide information on varieties, rootstocks and orchard management, with workshops on grafting and pruning, as well as tours around the gardens and orchard. There will be apple trees for sale, and apple dishes in the Grass Roof Café.

GREEN CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR

We’re dreaming of a Green Christmas …celebrate our native trees and buy Christmas presents at the craft fair. A range of stall holders will offer local craft alternatives to the commercial products available at this time of year. The café will serve delicious organic treats, and warming drinks.
