The Organic Centre Garden Party

Sunday 20th July 11am – 5pm

Grow your own - Make a difference – Save money – Have fun

Staff and students at The Organic Centre invite you to an action packed day to show and demonstrate how to grow some of your own organic food. With oil prices continually rising it is possible to imagine a future where importing food becomes increasingly expensive. This means that growing our own food becomes more of a necessity than a luxury and that the skills required to do so could become as important to learn as literacy and numeracy.

Also, in terms of health and environmental benefits, people in general are becoming much more aware of the advantages of locally and organically produced food. Parents in particular are more and more concerned about trusting the food they and their children eat.For more than 10 years The Organic Centre in Co. Leitrim has inspired visitors, taught course participants  and demonstrated to the public how to grow organically based on our own practical experience.

The Garden Party will feature:

  • Guided tours around the gardens, polytunnels, the forest garden and the orchard
  • Interactive and informal workshops will show how to compost, sow seeds, grow and propagate herbs, produce salad crops, deal with blight and grow tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers in polytunnels
  • Clinics on pest and disease control and the best way to deal with slugs.
  • The highlight of the day will be a demonstration of working horses with Jim Cronin.
  • Children’s activities
  • Music by the Trad Counsel from Cliffoney
  • Fabulous vegetarian dishes in the Grass Roof Café.
  • Food and craft stalls.
